Poppy in Paris: City Tips from an Adventurous Au Pair
Inspired by France’s rich heritage, I moved to Paris as an au pair in August 2022. Au pair programs are a wonderful way of immersing yourself in a new country and sharing everyday life with a local family. Having gained a degree in theology and religion with Arabic from the University of Exeter, I am passionate about learning languages and experiencing new cultures. When I’m not working, I love to explore everything that Paris has to offer, from exhibitions and museums to restaurants and second-hand clothing stores. Follow along in my new Bonjour Paris column as I uncover some hidden gems and provide city recommendations.

Loved reading your story and restaurant recommendations! I must say I feel a bit jealous, as I'd love to have enough time to see what you have seen in such a short time! We visited Paris in May but only for three days...I could easily spend three months there, if not more, to soak in all that it offers, and get to meet and know some local people on more than a casual tourist basis. I did manage to get by with my rusty French, chatting with a taxi driver which made me happy and him surprised ;) We had a fabulous view of the Eiffel Tower from our Pullman Hotel room for our 47th wedding anniversary; I'd go back there again in a minute! And my favorite photo of all was one where the Eiffel Tower aligned with a copy of the Statue of Liberty on the banks of the Seine.
