Paris is the city of love, yes, but let’s be honest: candle-lit bistros and a stroll along the Seine are lovely, but a little predictable. If you want to up your date game – or treat a friend to a more memorable “Palentine’s” day – here are some outrageously cool experiences in the city that will make your hearts race and leave you with stories worth retelling.

Catch a Free Concert at Supersonic

I stumbled across Supersonic one evening and felt like I’d stepped into an indie music lover’s dream. Tiny venue, massive sound, and a lineup of bands you won’t find on any tourist map. There’s a kind of electricity in watching a surprise set and letting the music sweep you away. Even if you’re usually shy, losing yourself in the lights and rhythms feels liberating. Especially with the one you love.

Swim at the Swanky Molitor Pool

Molitor isn’t just an ordinary pool – it’s Art Deco glamour brought to life. Mosaic tiles shimmer under the sun, terraces are perfect for cocktails, and the whole place feels like a 1930s film set you’ve stumbled into. Gliding through the water or lounging with a sparkling drink, you can’t help but feel stylish, and slightly conspiratorial, as though the city is your very own playground.

Watch a Film at Le Champo

If you love movies, Le Champo is cinematic heaven. This tiny Latin Quarter theater has been screening classics and arthouse films since 1938, and stepping inside is like walking into Parisian film history. Settling into the worn-in seats with a glass of wine, you’re transported both onscreen and in real life. Leave debating Truffaut versus Godard, and you’ll have a new inside joke that’s all your own. 

Captain a Boat on the Canal

On a sunny day, nothing beats renting a small boat along the Saint-Martin or l’Ourcq canals. Steering together, laughing at your questionable navigation skills, and floating past leafy quays and street art. Stop for a riverside picnic and bring a bottle of something bubbly for a small toast mid-canal. Companies like AKWA Experience (open seasonally) even provide boats with built-in grills and custom picnic baskets, or their dockside dining area provides delicious menus. 

Write a Letter to Your Future Self at Pli – Café à Lettres

This little café is a unique gem. Surrounded by letters ready to be sent, you can pour your thoughts onto paper and open them months or years later. Sharing the quiet of reflection feels intimate, glimpsing each other’s inner worlds. A few months – or years – later, when those letters arrive, you’ll smile, laugh, and remember this day together. The memory of this thoughtful pause lingers long after the ink dries. 

Paint Your Partner at Paint Me Up

I adore the idea of painting your partner. At Paint Me Up, you each create a portrait of the other under the guidance of a patient artist, in settings that range from neon-lit fun to soft floral charm. It’s playful, experimental, and often hilarious, and by the end you leave with two personal works of art and a story you’ll be giggling about for weeks. 

Make Macarons at Galeries Lafayette

A pastry class at Galeries Lafayette is hands-on magic. You get to whisk, pipe, and fill your own macarons, learning all the tricks from a French pastry chef. Sharing flour-covered touches while attempting perfect shells is strangely romantic, and tasting the results at the end is even sweeter. Plus, taking home a box of your own sweet handiwork is a delicious bonus.

Craft Jewelry at Sésame à Paris

I love this one because it’s tactile, personal, and tangible. You and your date can design silver rings or bracelets, engrave them, and polish them to perfection. Holding a finished piece in your hand, knowing it was made in tandem with you loved one – is a wonderfully meaningful souvenir of your day. 

Create Your Own Perfume at Musée du Parfum Fragonard

Paris has been perfumery royalty for centuries, and Fragonard lets you try it yourself. Over 90 minutes, you’ll learn about “noses,” the fragrance pyramid, and blend a unique Eau de Cologne. At the end, you leave with a custom scent, and a memory that literally lingers, a reminder of your lovely Valentine’s Day every time you catch its scent. 

Paris has a sneaky way of turning the ordinary into something you’ll remember forever, and these aren’t the clichés you’ll see on every tourist guide. One minute you’re elbow-deep in macaron batter, the next you’re arguing over who’s the better painter. You’ll steer boats like questionable captains, sniff custom perfumes like amateur alchemists, and end the day thinking, “This is why Paris will always feel cool.”
