What’s Inside the Bourse de Commerce

Like it or hate it – I like it! – “Minimal” is an exhibit of non-representational art now on display at the Bourse de Commerce/Pinault Collection. Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, and Dan Flavin are among the featured artists. The exhibit is grouped thematically according to themes: light, materiality, color, and space.

The museum’s layout is perfect for the “Minimal” exhibit. Many of the works are quite large and some are laid out, unfenced, on the floor (with guards positioned to warn you not step on them by mistake). Unlike in so many museums, the art has plenty of room to breathe.

“Minimal” was impressive but it was not the highpoint for me. The museum’s architecture was. In the redesign of the Bourse, the historic commodities exchange, the interior space was cleared out to make a blank canvas for the display of modern art. Thankfully, the original hallways and staircases rimming the building remain. They are spectacular and so much fun to photograph! I hope you enjoy the results here.

“Minimal” is showing until the 19th of January, 2026. Open from 11 am to 7 pm, with closures at 9 pm on Friday evenings. Closed Tuesdays.
