I remember how dazzled I was after I saw the first Atelier des Lumières exhibition on Gustav Klimt in 2018. The excitement of the experience with gorgeous images of Klimt’s master works continuously splashed on the walls, on the floor, and the ceiling along with a soundtrack of Strauss, Wagner, Chopin, Puccini, Mahler, Beethoven and Philip Glass was palpitating.
Atelier des Lumières in Paris has been a smashing success with over 600,000 people annually attending and in the following years exhibitions have included artists Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Marc Chagall, Auguste Renoir, Yves Klein, and Antoni Gaudí.
For the 2022 edition, Atelier des Lumières is presenting “Cézanne, the Lights of Provence,” for the long program (30 minutes), and “Kandinsky, The Odyssey of Abstraction,” for the short program (10 minutes).
“Cézanne, the Lights of Provence” take us on a journey through Cézanne’s fascination of Provence with paintings of the beautiful landscapes of parks, gardens, and forests; portraits of local townspeople workers; and the iconic still lifes of fruit.
At the opposite end of the art spectrum from the romantic works of Cézanne is Klimt, with his sharp geometric shapes in brilliant colors. The show starts with the artist’s early figurative paintings and Russian folklore, then graduates to the bold, abstract forms he became known for.
