5th Arr
Paris - 5th Arrondissement
The 5th -- home of the Sorbonne University -- is considered the real Latin Quarter. St. Michel is the busy bustling area nearest the Seine, and the closer you get to the border of the 6th, the more charming medieval alleys you'll find yourself in. But the 5th also shares part of the Luxembourg Garden with the 6th, and that‘s an area not to be ignored. Other areas of interest: the Arenes de Lutece (the ruins of the Gallo-Roman era), Musée du Moyen Age (with its famous medieval tapestry, the Lady and the Unicorn), Musée de l'Institut du Monde Arabe, Musée Curie, and the Botanical Gardens named les Jardin des Plantes (with its zoo, La Ménagerie -- check for that ostrich guarding her eggs) and its Natural History Museum. If you can’t find a good apartment or hotel in the 6th, look for one here that’s snug up to the border near the Seine.

Jardin des Plantes and the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle
This garden/museum/zoo has only two downfalls -- it's not on the natural beaten tourist path of Paris and admission fees are charged for the museums and gardens, each. This attraction rests at the very bottom of the 5th arrondissement, but once you do arrive, the trip will be well worth the visit.

Madame Marie Curie Museum
If it wouldn't be for Scientist Marie Curie, we'd be living in a different world -- one surely short in the fight against cancer. She was the one who first really made a breakthrough in the science of radioactivity. The Curie museum was built in very close proximity of the place where she had conducted her original observations and experimentations. So although this is not the true Curie Laboratory, you'll be able to see information about the Curie family and their achievements here.
"The Curie Museum occupies the Curie Laboratory of the Radium Institute, where Marie Curie, Irène and Frédéric Joliot-Curie did much of their work. The museum enshrines a rich scientific heritage and gives pride of place to the “family with five Nobel Prizes”: Marie and Pierre Curie, Irène Joliot-Curie and Frédéric Joliot." www.curie.fr
