Romantic Paris: 7 Tips for Your Trip

Paris is arguably the most romantic city in the world, and it’s for a good reason: it’s hard not to be in Paris and feel some heart stirrings, seeing the beauty of the city.

If you and your new love (or your longtime love) are visiting Paris, here are some suggestions on ways to enhance the romance factor of the trip. Whether it’s your first time in the City of Love or your 20th, there are always little ways to dial up the romance when you’re in Paris.

1. Book a Gorgeous Hotel

Ambiance matters. And having a nice, clean, beautiful environment for your romantic getaway is a great way to enhance the romantic feel of the trip. Sure, some of the best, most authentic romantic moments happen in the everyday, and in the worst places (your partner holding your hand at the doctor’s office or DMV, for example). But if you’re splashing out on a romantic trip to Paris, splash out a nice hotel for yourself, too.

Whatever your budget, you can find some lovely places to stay in Paris. On the luxury end, there are 12 so-called “palace hotels” with a serious wow factor, including stand-outs like the Crillon, Le Bristol, Shangri-La, and Le Meurice. But you don’t have to spend a fortune on accommodations: there’s even a boutique hotel in the 14th with a sexy garden cabana for two – your own little bolthole in the middle of Paris. And if you travel during the off-season (i.e., not May-September) you will find less expensive rates at nice hotels.

Don’t forget to enjoy a lazy breakfast. What’s sweeter than waking up next to your person in Paris? Don’t rush the day; relax into it. Perhaps order some champagne, too. Romance is all about living in the moment and being present and feeling things deeply. Slow down, you don’t need to rush your way through Paris – especially if romance is the main purpose of the trip.

2. Cruise on the Seine

There are a number of sightseeing companies offering trips on the Seine, but when you want to enhance the romance factor, splurge on a private boat ride. Sustainability-minded Green River Cruises offers pontoon boats that can be privatized for an aperitif or romantic dinner as you listen to your favorite playlist and the captain navigates past the famous city landmarks.

3. Roam Around the City Streets, Hand-in-Hand

Seeing Paris on foot is one of the best ways to experience the city, and it’s all the better doing it hand-in-hand with your partner. Ditch the Maps app, the hard copy map, and the agenda, and just simply roam the streets of Paris without purpose or plan, other than enjoyment and awe.

Wandering through Paris is always an adventure, and you don’t need to have a grand plan. Often, the best moments are the ones that happen spontaneously. Why not see what unfolds as you through the magical city of Paris? Here, there’s always something waiting to be discovered. Rain or shine, you’re going to have a romantic journey.

4. Catch a Sexy Show at a Cabaret

Fire up the sexiness factor by catching one of Paris’s fabulous cabaret shows. At places like Crazy Horse and Moulin Rouge, you’ll be wowed by the cabaret dancing, crazy costumes, and spectacle. It may even inspire you and your partner to talk about fun fantasies for later back at your hotel.

6. Eat an Intimate Dinner with Epic Views

Romantic dinners by candlelight are overrated. Go for dinners with Eiffel Tower views instead! Book a reservation at a magical spot in Paris with exquisite views so you can see for yourself why Paris is known as the “City of Light.” Some of the best options are in museums in the 16th arrondissement: Girafe, Monsieur Bleu, Bambini, Forest. Another spot is on top of the Musée du quai Branly in the 7th; Les Ombres is overseen by the Alain Ducasse Group.

The Le Ciel de Paris restaurant on top of the Montparnasse Tower is also a good bet, as is the incredible perch atop the TOO Hotel in the 13th.

7. Book a Photo Shoot

Reserving a photoshoot in a city is newly one of my go-to travel musts. It’s a great way to capture a city and your experience there without having to ask strangers to take your picture or tire out your arm with selfies. Leave it to the professionals. Through Airbnb Experiences or other research means, you can find great amateur and professional photographers at an affordable price point. Look for photographers who have lots of positive customer reviews. A couple’s photoshoot is a fun way to commemorate a romantic trip to Paris.
