The Best Places to Buy Croissants in Paris

Is there anything better than eating a croissant in Paris? Indulging in buttery, flakey perfection in the city that makes them best?

There’s no shortage of places baking excellent croissants; neighborhood boulangeries work hard to please their exacting local clients. But there are a few bakeries that are a cut above.

Here are a few of our favorite places for buying croissants in Paris and other baked goods to sate your appetite. And by the way, as of May 16, a new 2022 champion has been crowned by le syndicat des Boulangers du Grand Paris (“the Bakers of Greater Paris union”). The winner of the best croissant au beurre 2022 is the Maison Carton, a boulangerie situated at 6 Boulevard de Denain in the 10th arrondissement.

Pierre Hermé

At the decadent Pierre Hermé, which has multiple shops throughout Paris, including in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, you’ll find the delicious Ispahan croissant. The Ipsahan croissant is a symphony of flavors, including rose, litchi, and raspberry. It was created by Pierre Hermé, who has been called the “Picasso of Pastries,” and it’s easy to see why. His signature croissant has been called “one of the tastiest croissants on Earth.”

Laurent Duchêne

Laurent Duchêne is Vogue’s number one pick for croissants, and it’s hard to argue with an ultimate arbiter of taste like Vogue. The magazine calls it “the number one spot for the best croissants in Paris.” Laurent Duchêne’s boulangerie is found in the Butte-aux-Cailles neighborhood, and the buttery croissants – which can be purchased with different swirls and spreads – are the ultimate way to enjoy a tasty pastry treat. And you won’t just find croissants here, but rather – an abundance of decadent and tasty treats!

Duchêne’s excellence has been duly noted, too. He earned the craftsman award of Meilleur Ouvrier de France for his baking achievements.
