Chocolatier Patrick Roger to Exhibit Sculptures at Elephant Paname

Patrick Roger is a hard man to categorize. He is usually known as an award-winning chocolatier, with six locations in Paris selling his creations. And yet after visiting his website you’d be forgiven for thinking you had stumbled upon some kind of performing arts science portal. Before any mention of chocolate you are greeted with these pathways: Chemical Physics, Genetics, Hold on to Your Chestnuts, Radioscopy and Anastomosis. And clicking on them creates more questions than answers. You’re confused, I’m confused; for God’s sake we’re all confused. If you’ve been to one of his boutiques however, things are a little clearer. You see Patrick Roger’s chocolates aren’t just pretty edibles, they are head-turning sculptures that just so happen to be edible. His enormous installation of bathing Hippos in 2012 was one of the most interesting sculptures to be found in Paris at the time; the fact that it was made from chocolate and not bronze making it all the more impressive. This April Patrick Roger will be exhibiting some of his sculptures with longer shelf-lives in the Napoleon III era Éléphant Paname dance school. His latest artworks include monumental aluminium elephant ears and bronze statues from his Vanities series. The exhibition runs from the 31st of March to the 18th of April. Entry is free.
