What better musical to celebrate the reopening of Paris’s historic Théâtre du Châtelet following two years of renovations than “An American in Paris”? This spectacular musical created by brothers Ira and George Gershwin spent 5 years traveling the world, from Paris to Broadway New York and London’s West End, and back again. This musical that’s loved by all will warm your heart and add rhythm to your step, whether or not you’re an American. Performed in English with French subtitles, it’s a spectacle for Parisians and foreigners alike.
Setting the stage until January 1, 2020, “An American in Paris” is a love story taking place after the Second World War. Meet aspiring painter American GI Jerry who decides to remain in Paris rather than returning home to the United States. While pursuing his ambitions in the City of Light, he falls hopelessly in love with beautiful Parisian dancer Lise. What Jerry doesn’t realize is that Lise is also the muse of his closest friends! Watch this inspiring tale of love and friendship unfold as you’re transported through charming scenes that speak to the soul of Paris.
Ryan Steele proves an impressive lead as Jerry Mulligan while Leanne Cope’s portrayal of femme fatale Lise Dassin is unforgettable. Their chemistry onstage is palpable!
The majestic score of this four-time Tony-Award winning musical will stay with you long after the two-hour performance ends. You may even find yourself dancing along the boulevards, in search of your Parisian story.
