French Country Colors – An Insider’s View # 2
A riot of colors greets you as you enter the home of Theo and Christiane, situated off a small lane, surrounded by the undulating fields of the deep green vineyards of Tariquet.  Their home is a unique creation of decorative French and Mediterranean motifs, a magical primary colored landscape one immediately takes refuge in. The colors we like best tend to be the ones we need the most.  Having grown up in war torn Berlin, the couple have designed a life affirming sanctuary filled with a superb collection of decorative and functional pottery.                         Their interior dining room is a striking contrast of vermillion red and chartreuse green.  The red is passionate and energetic, while the green strikes a balance between the head and heart.  When paired together these colors create a vibrant, harmonious equilibrium.  In psychological terms these colors represent survival.                                       The exterior, an open air dining room on the terrace, is the perfect secluded spot for a late afternoon aperitif.  Here the colors of nature come to play.  This time the combination of blue, which is a soothing color for the body and mind, draws us into this gypsy caravan of natural light enhanced by the green canvas stretched under the rose covered arbor.  Nothing can set a mood like color does.             The rich gold tones of the chaux (natural plaster) walls signify success and triumph.  Painting even one wall in your home can change the entire atmosphere of a room and is one of the most effective ways to adorn a space without adding anything physically to it or spending a lot of money. The attraction we feel to certain colors is definitely beneficial to our health and well being. For Theo and Christiane, theirs is a healing home.     Subscribe for FREE weekly newsletters.
