This week’s photograph was taken on August 1st, 1909 at Parc des Princes stadium, which was the final destination of the Tour de France from 1903 to 1967. The rider pictured here, Jean Alavoine, was 21 years old at the time and won 3rd place in that year’s general classification. Throughout his career, the French professional cyclist won 17 stages in the Tour de France and wore the yellow jersey for five days. Following a veteran race in Argenteuil in 1943, Alavoine sadly passed away at the age of 55 after an accident during the race.
