5 Sustainable Hotels in Paris

Did you know that Parisian hotels can be certified eco-friendly? Labels like the Clef Verte (Green Key), EU Ecolabel, Green Globe, and TripAdvisor Eco Leader are given to select hotels in Paris and around the world which meet strict criteria. These include reducing water and electricity consumption, training employees on how to maintain eco-friendly practices, supporting local communities and farmers, using organic and compostable ingredients, avoiding corrosive cleaning products, reducing noise and light pollution, and protecting biodiversity and wildlife.
Sustainability is still something many hotels are working toward, but some in Paris have already achieved great things for the planet by putting it at the forefront. While we’ve narrowed down the list to five sustainable hotels, some honorable mentions include the Hôtel Cabane, which has a Scandinavian-style cabin in the center of its garden, and Yooma Urban Lodge, which features a vegetarian restaurant that uses organic and seasonal ingredients, many of which come from Yooma’s rooftop garden. For a complete list of Parisian hotels with the Clef Verte label, check out the Clef Verte website.
Here are five of the most sustainable hotels in Paris for your next eco-friendly trip.

1. Solar Hôtel
As the first green, low-cost hotel in Paris, Solar Hôtel has set a standard for all other eco-friendly hotels. Compared to many sustainable hotels which cost hundreds of euros, Solar Hôtel maintains a single rate for all rooms (99€ to 199€) with a daily organic breakfast included.
Located near the pedestrianized Rue Daguerre in the 14th arrondissement, Solar Hôtel has attractive features like an enclosed garden with outdoor seating, composting for food waste, bicycle racks, solar panels, rainwater collectors, and even a battery recycling bin. The hotel holds the Clef Verte label and is comprised of two eco-friendly buildings, the main building being Solar Hôtel and the secondary building being their annex, Lionceau. For guests with reduced mobility, Solar Hôtel is wheelchair accessible, while Lionceau is not.
Beyond the hotel itself, the chic, pedestrianized neighborhood in the 14th offers much to explore. There are various parks and green spaces nearby, along with the Cimetière du Montparnasse and tourist attractions like the Catacombs.

2. Grand Boulevards Experimental
Owned by the Experimental Group, the Grands Boulevards Experimental Hotel offers a lush escape in one of the city’s most popular districts. Situated between the 2nd and 9th arrondissements, the hotel is close to famous spots like the Galeries Lafayettes, Opéra Garnier, and Grand Rex Cinema.
Grands Boulevards was opened in 2018 and has held the Clef Verte label since 2021. The hotel features an intimate courtyard space and rooftop herb garden accessible to guests. Their restaurant focuses on using organic and seasonal ingredients, reducing food waste, and composting, and they always have several vegetarian options, which can be made vegan upon request.
Each hotel room comes equipped with an informational booklet to encourage and inform guests about how to enjoy an eco-responsible stay. This includes using refillable glass bottles in the bathroom, cardboard water bottles, and compostable coffee cups. Each room also has pressure-reducing showerheads and taps that decrease water consumption. Finally, employees are trained to understand how to manage the hotel more sustainably and to answer any guests’ questions.
The Experimental Group has various locations across Paris, including hotels, restaurants, and cocktail clubs like the trendy Prescription Cocktail Club in the 6th arrondissement and Experimental Cocktail Club in the 2nd. In all of their locations, you can expect sustainability and seasonal ingredients to be at the forefront of their work.

3. Grand Powers
Located in the Triangle d’Or since 1920, the historical building which now houses the 5-star Grand Powers hotel offers an eco-friendly place to stay near the Champs-Élysées. Founded by the family-run hospitality group Paristory, Grand Powers is dedicated to responsible hospitality that respects the environment, the local community, and their employees.
Grand Powers holds the Clef Verte label, and they’ve worked with local companies such as Les Alchimistes for their compost, Bee Happy Miel for local honey, and Les Hôtels Solidaires to donate leftover hygienic and food products to people in need. The hotel is wheelchair and pet friendly, and their restaurant Café 52 is open to the public daily with service continu. In addition, Café 52 is certified Ecotable. With a focus on organic, seasonal, and French ingredients, the restaurant is a popular spot for healthy, vegetable-based meals, with only two menu items being non-vegetarian. It’s always crowded for Sunday brunch and often has live music. Grand Powers encourages guests to make reservations for Café 52 in advance due to its popularity.

4. Eden Lodge Paris
Built in 2015, Eden Lodge is a luxury, zero-carbon ecolodge that was designed to feel like a vacation home in the middle of the forest. On the outside, it appears to be a cabin nestled in the wilderness, and this feeling continues inside. Plants adorn every part of the Lodge, which was created by the ecological hospitality group Eden Lodge International.
Eden Lodge Paris holds the EU Ecolabel, and each feature, from the well-insulated wooden structure to energy-saving rooms, has been carefully designed to be as sustainable as possible. Each of the two suites and three rooms have Japanese toilets and low-pressure showerheads to reduce water consumption. In the summer, the Lodge comes to life with its outdoor patio, and guests can enjoy the various balconies and terraces with views of the garden.
The Lodge’s key areas are the garden and shared kitchen. The garden features a variety of native species to improve biodiversity. The shared, fully-equipped kitchen promotes a feeling of camaraderie among the Lodge’s guests and is open for use throughout the day. Each morning for breakfast, guests can find organic coffee and tea, fresh orange juice, and artisanal jams and jellies with fresh bread and viennoiseries. Eden Lodge can be privatized, particularly for ecological events or conferences, and is open year-round.
