Dior Institut: Spa at Plaza Athenee
I was tired. I had jet lag. And I only had three days in Paris and one of these was going to require a trip to the Opera. I needed beauty and I needed it now, and not some sort of makeover action—I needed hardcore pampering. Fortunately, the Dior Institut at the Plaza Athénée was there to help me through my jet lag—and other woes. While some think of being surrounded by white as an homage to the hospital, the white environs of the Dior Institut make you feel more at home than anything else. Remember, this is brought to you by the House of Dior, not Doctors Inc. An immediate sense of calm sets in once you slip on that radiantly cushy bathrobe and grab a glass of cucumber water. The surroundings are almost futuristic in their architecture—like one had stepped onto the set of Logan’s Run—but this was all good in creating an ethereal, no need to worry about the outside world kind of attitude. Of course, the suspended glass water-droplet over a decorative mosaic pool brings an air of complete Zen into the picture, as you wait for your beauty technician to come and get you and you lounge on—you guessed it—a white chaise lounge. I opted for a cellulite treatment—okay, I’ll admit it, I do have it—what woman doesn’t these days? And even though these sorts of treatments are best in a series situation, I was going to take anything I could get to work that fat away. My two-hour treatment was entitled the Anti-Cellulite Offensive—and I have no problem playing offense to my unsightly bulges whatsoever. This targeted firming treatment combats cellulite to regain lovely curves and enhance sensual shapes. Now, you wouldn’t think French women could even fathom cellulite, but believe me, it’s universal and that’s probably one of the reasons this treatment is so popular. Over the next two hours I was hit with a pulsating anti-cellulite zapper, given a massage, a mudpack and—due to my jet lag—a mini catnap. Suffice to say, I felt much more lithe and glowy after—I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone take better care of my thighs in my life with such tender loving care. And while they probably weren’t dramatically smaller after all that, suffice to say they were smoother and seemed to fit a lot better into my earlier purchase of a pair of Parisian pants—without the use of the Spanx.
