Through the graceful archway, punctuated with 18th century antiques and a delicate Aubusson tapestry, elegant French doors lead to a spacious patio, sip a cappuccino while deciding where in the world to go.

An elegant wooden staircase leads to the 2nd floor custom-designed dream kitchen, the centerpiece of which is a Molteni stove. Equipped with All-Clad cookware, it features the world’s most delectable cuisine as prepared by top Relais Gourmands super-chefs, Patrick O’Connell, Daniel Boulud, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Eric Ripert, Charlie Palmer & Thomas Keller.

The concept is a result of collaboration with 3 luxury partners: Relais & Châteaux, European Country Kitchens -  and Electrolux, the premium European appliance maker, with its Electrolux ICON™ line, new in North Amerca, and Molteni by Electrolux, the custom, hand-crafted stove.

Interior designer, Didier Lorence brings his French flair for design into the picture placing his antiques so that they artfully enhance the space. Lorence, a gallery owner in Paris and Moscow, just opened his first NYC showroom   2 blocks from the Maison des Relais & Châteaux.

Régis Bulot, International President, reflects. “The NYC Maison des Relais & Châteaux follows the successful launch of our flagship Maison in  Paris 2 years ago. With another one scheduled to open shortly in London, we are confident that our NYC Maison is a showcase the better to continue our vision of luxury collaboration dedicated to gastronomy.”

Our experiences with Relais & Chateaux have not been very good. It is as you say an association but one who seemingly can not enforce any standards on their individual members. Any questions, complaints or disputes are just handed off and are solely between the client and the individual establishment. Believe me some of the R & C members are not good at all while others are fabulous. In summary Relais & Chateaux is a brand that I can not trust. The members should be approached and considered on an individual basis remembering that some of them are the best in the world and some on definitely not. The R& C name in my view is useless since it guarantees nothing and the association is toothless to enforce standards.
