The legendary Bluebell Girls were first seen at The Lido, a cabaret and burlesque show, in 1948. Led by Irish dancer Margaret Kelly Leibovici OBE (1910-2004), they were named for the color of her eyes. A sort of precursor to Victoria’s Secrets Angels, with, arguably, even longer legs.
The dancers, all plumes and paillettes, became famous for their sensual elegance and bodies to die for. Athletes in their own right, they are all trained in classical and/or modern dance techniques.
Now, in a bold move, for the first time, the Bluebell girls (and boys) are sharing their secrets during “bootcamp sessions” on the stage of the cabaret (where Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Hallyday, Shirley MacLaine, Marlene Dietrich, Elton John have performed) to showcase the Lido’s current show “Paris Merveilles.” Come workout with Victoria, Alicia, Aslan & Luca, Kate, Eve, Karolina.
From Monday to Friday the 1hr 30 minute sessions are led by the above named Lido sculptural artists. Warm up for 40 minutes with say, yoga, Pilates, body pump, fitness, then (for 50 minutes) learn some moves from the actual Paris Merveilles show. Choose the class that suits you best, they’re ready for any level of fitness.
What to expect:
The “Bluebell” session begins with yoga vinyasa – then take part in a bit of “Bluebell” choreography. “Barricade” starts with a fitness workout (squats, stretches, abs etc.) and, for the finale, you’ll be taught part of the “Barricade” routine – inspired by the French Revolution. The “Final Tableau” session starts with Pilates before revealing the high kick technique and how to shake those tail feathers, baby!
However, if, like Oscar Wilde, “whenever the urge to exercise comes over me I lie down ‘til it goes away,” reserve the Dinner & Show Soirée Plume at €130 per person.
Looks like fun!
