It’s been a snowy week in Paris, so I was particularly drawn to this image, titled la fille du b(l)anc, taken in the Luxembourg gardens. It reminds me of a scene from a French new wave film. Technically speaking, many people will say one should not photograph into the sun, and that it’s best to keep the sun behind you when you’re shooting. However, breaking this rule can create sun flares and silhouettes in a photo, like in this one. The contrast of the dark coat, bench and wintry trees in the shadow with bright sun beams and powdery snow creates a nice effect.
