Photo of the Week – January 17, 2014
Here is a photo taken during the 1929 Carnival of Nice. One of the world’s biggest carnivals, le Carnaval de Nice is also considered to most likely be the original celebration, dating back to at least 1294 with records of the Count of Provence in attendance. Today, millions of visitors flock to Nice each year during the two week celebration, capped off by Mardi Gras day. Each year the event has a different theme. 2014’s? The King of Gastronomy! This work (Carnaval de Nice : le désespoir de Tota, by Agence de presse Meurisse) is free of known copyright restrictions.
