The French, with natural art de reçevoir, love their “Portes Ouvertes” (Open Doors)– from gastronomy, astronomy, you name it– providing a great excuse to meet NBFs and greet those you always meant to stay in touch with.
Founded in 2009, Seiziem’Art’s mission is to promote the talented artists/artisans of the 16th arrondissement who, shut away in their ateliers, are eager to participate in the cultural and social life of the neighborhood.
This year’s event begins on Thursday, October 11th, 2018 with the presentation of works by each participating artist at “Point du Jour”: Centre Paris Anim’ du Point du jour , 1-9, rue du Général Malleterre – 75016 (Metro: Porte de Saint-Cloud) from 6 pm, in the presence of all the artists.
More than 50 of the 16th’s talented artists, painters, photographers, sculptors, plastic artists, ceramists, glassmakers, and cabinetmakers throw open their workshops, workplaces or apartments during the weekend when about 5,000 visitors, art and culture vultures, have the chance to discover how they work.
And, for the 2018 edition each artist invites a creator/craftsman of his choice: the perfect way to make new art world discoveries!
Pascale Morin porcelain sculptor and Art Anim’s President explains: “Seizièm’Art began like this: Imagine a damp and rainy Sunday; I was at my friend Sophie’s sculpture studio, located next to mine, with a neighbor who was a florist. We brainstormed, then said, what if we opened our doors next Sunday? Yes!
So, we designed flyers suggesting visits to our studios, around a drink and a nibble. It was a huge success! Lots of people came and we were so excited.
From there the association Seizièm’Art was born: we realized we could group the artists of the 16th to promote and publicize their work and share the cultural and social life of our ‘hood.
At the time we were not sure if the 16th had enough artists! However, we quickly rose to 15 and today the association has about 70!
For the 8th edition of JPO (Journée Portes Ouvert), the artists of Seizièm’Art will invite another artist, from the 16th, or elsewhere, to their workshop. As a porcelain sculptor, I’m inviting a photographer – the idea is to mix and match the disciplines.”
This year there are also 2 guided tours (1h30 – 12 euros / person) giving a unique opportunity to rediscover the imposing and fascinating architecture of the 16th arrondissement.
