Restaurant: Chez Yvonne
In every attractive city for tourists they are a number of places (restaurants, bars…) for the people coming for a visit and other where the citizens go. « Chez Yvonne » is in the second category. It is a very famous place in Strasbourg where many Alsatians come for the food but more than that, for the atmosphere. But for the gastronomy first as all the traditional plates from Alsace are prepared « the old way », as if a grand-mother would have baked them. Yvonne is the owner of the restaurant and she’s coming to welcome every costumer personally. As they are mainly regular costumers at the place, the atmosphere is friendly. If you want to taste a piece of the Alsatian way of life, this is the place to go!

Café: Le Milan
Welcome to the place where I have spend much of my free time when I was a student (that means a lot of time!). The reason is simple: that café is just one foot far from the University. Here you will mainly meet college professors, students and mister postman (I’m still wondering when he is working…). You can stop at the Milan just for a drink or to eat. You won’t find great gastronomy but if you want to order something good, ask for a Croc’ Madam: toasted bread with ham, cheese and butter, with an egg and green salad. The owner of the café is always sitting at one of the table, looking after the happiness of its costumers.

Hôtel Bristol
You can understand that it is hard for me to describe a hotel as I’m a citizen of Strasbourg and so I’m never sleeping in a hotel of my town. But I have visited some as my friends from over the world came to visit me. The Hôtel Bristol is a great place to stay for tourists. It is just near the center of the city and from the windows you can see the train station. So it is interesting if you come from another French city by train or if you want to go easily in an other part of the country or in Germany.

Weekly event: Quai aux livres
Every year I am waiting for that great event (for me). One week-end every year, along the quays of Strasbourg, people can come and sell their old books. If you are a reader or if you want to find great books talking about Alsace, you don’t want to miss that event. This year it will take place along the Quai des Pêcheurs, on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June starting at 8 am. Even if you don’t want to buy any book, you can go there to appreciate the specific and nice atmosphere.
And if you like books and want to find some good once in French, twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday, booksellers can open there shop on the street, along the rue des Grandes Arcades. It’s always a nice walk to do, for those who like secondhand books.
