Sex In This City

There is an infinite range of what “sexy” means. For me, it’s anonymity, smoldering eyes and a little mystery. This kind of sexiness can be found around town no matter whether you are into the bling-bling or BoBourge lifestyles. One of my favorite places to find sex in this city is toward the end of the cobblestone pedestrian passage, the rue de Lappe, and might easily be missed on this street dominated by neon signs. You will have to fight through the unruly weekend crowds but once you enter the glass door, the relaxed atmosphere is transporting. Elevated prices keep most of the students and riff-raff out while high ceilings and lights lit low and richly draped furniture with just the right amount of dust make for the perfect hideaway. Mismatched seats makes cozying up easy—especially when even a table separating you and your date is too much. Sexy here is romantic. For a transatlantic fling, hotel bars can have that sexy feel. Behind the Ritz, the Hemingway Bar is a place that takes you back to the good ole days before the war. Crackly music from a record player sings to the wood-paneled walls emblazoned with the man himself. When I was there, the leather-padded bar was saddled with businessmen and lonesome barflys looking for some action and chat. Meanwhile, the oh-so charming Pierre and Christophe (the head barman Colin was off that night) served us the classic barman’s Stinger and Meloncoulis (vodka with melon balls), performing magic tricks with cards, toothpicks and swizzle sticks. For €25 a drink, sexy here is classy. For one-stop shopping near the Odéon, my favorite is the split-level restaurant/bar Alcazar and the hip club Wagg. Owned by the British team Terence Conran/Fabric, the hanging photographs and low chairs make for an understated and unimposing décor. In the far corner of the bar upstairs, you can even get a free massage with brunch Sundays or the soirée relax Tuesday evenings. Next door, the basement of Wagg (where I met my latest fling, an adorable Swede) spins for a range of ages within the confines of the exposed stone archways. Sexy here is cool. If sexy for you is opulence, the champagne bar of the Dokhans is old-school luxury with high ceilings and ornate paneling that will make you feel draped in velvet, especially with the attentive staff that anticipates your every whim. Go and make eyes and see what turns up. Sexy here is ultra luxe. If you have the dough to be this naughty, spend it at Mathis, which is actually discreetly and conveniently part of a hotel. The beautiful people gather at this brothel and flirt amid high-class hookers and boy toys. The dress code is sexy and men’s names are taken at the door for “client reference.” Sexy here is glam. Now, if you are in a more serious mood—for a little lap dance and fun in a strip club, you might try The Hustler where good, down-home American girls take it all off in a posh setting. With two floors, a lot of poles, tucked-away round couches, tables for props and chilling bottles of bubbly, it feels more like an orgy than a strip club. The down-to-earth dancers will often chat with you after their shows if you offer them a glass of your champagne. Sexy here is real.
