This week’s photo captures Paris’ Gare du Nord at twilight. The sun’s last rays barely illuminate the station’s grand exterior and bustle as the interior lights gently twinkle. The amber indoor glow contrasts nicely with the cool blue tone of the outside. Paris Nord is Europe’s busiest railway station in number of travelers, about 190 million a year. The original station, inaugurated in 1846, quickly proved too small for the increase in railroad traffic at the time, and it’s facade was moved to Lille where it has since adorned the Gare de Lille Flandres. The current station has been in service since 1864.
