Event Description

Built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle, the Petit Palais is a gorgeous building – bejeweled with mosaics, marble and a lush courtyard garden- that’s home to the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts. This highly anticipated exhibit was curated in partnership with the Palais Galliera, the city’s fashion museum. “Worth: The Birth of Haute Couture in Paris” tells the story of Charles Frederick Worth (1825–1895), the British icon who launched an iconic fashion house at 7 rue de la Paix in 1858. It spanned a century and four generations. An arbiter of style, Worth was a leading influence on fashion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. To quote the curators: “The first retrospective ever devoted to Worth in Paris, it brings together some of the most emblematic pieces from a fashion house whose history, while legendary, remains little-known.”
