Event Description

Realising before others the dominant position that photography was about to take, Lucien Clergue was one of the first European photographers to believe that he could make a living from selling his prints in the future. At the end of a bullfight, he rushed to introduce himself to Pablo Picasso and show him his work. Picasso decided to sponsor him and the rest is history.

The Camargue was the stage for his broad daylight images of water, sand, the sea, life, death, the female body, the biological evolution of the earth or the corrida. Lucien Clergue later become known for his powerful nudes.
