The kimono, meaning literally “what is worn,” first appeared more than a thousand years ago in Japan and today embodies the national culture and sensibility. Over time, it’s become an essential piece of fashion, seen on catwalks, kabuki actors, and international pop stars. Conceived by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, this exhibit looks back on the story of the kimono and explores its relevance today.
