Event Description

The Labèque sisters set the 18th century alight in concerts for two or three pianos by Haydn and Mozart at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

This concert is truly a family affair! Mozart forms the core of this programme, notably with his joyful Concerto No. 10, one of the hits of the piano duet repertoire, which the young musician composed especially to play with his sister Nanette. It will be interpreted by Katia and Marielle Labèque – two sisters at the keyboard, who have consistently surprised audiences for over 20 years. We have heard them play almost everything, from Baroque music to more contemporary works, including some forays off the beaten track into popular repertoire, jazz and world music. However, they have not neglected the seminal works in the piano duet repertoire (Mozart, of course, but also Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Poulenc among others) where their emotional and artistic affinity has carved them out a unique and moving niche. Whether the mood be delicate or passionate, the Labèque sisters have no peer when it comes to lighting up an evening with their wonderfully close relationship.
