Event Description

The 18th century, according to the Goncourt brothers, was one of seduction, intrigues and escapades. Jean-Honoré Fragonard would become the main illustrator of the ethos of this time, and its main agent.

The manifold and generous work of the ‘Divin Frago’ is intricately woven with romantic inspiration, from the pastoral scenes from his early canvasses to the romantic allegories towards the culmination of his career.

By way of 80 celebrated pieces, the Musée du Luxembourg offers a unique in-depth look at the romantic theme in the work of Fragonard, including illustrations for La Fontaine’s stories and a counterpoint with Fragonard’s contemporaries such as Boucher, Baudouin and Greuze.
