A cross between Britain’s Got Talent and Cirque du Soleil, the Festival du Cirque de Demain showcases – and pits against one another – the rising superstars of the circus scene.

Although still relatively under the radar, for the last four decades the circus arts bonanza has been a springboard for the next generation of performers – and catapulted countless to global fame. And the hotly contested 39th edition promises to up the ante with 24 gravity-defying acts (handpicked out of 1,000 hopefuls) from around the globe set to vie for the coveted crown in front of a panel of gimlet-eyed industry vets, and a thousand-strong audience in Paris. The sprightly lot will not only have to meet the judges’ exacting standards, but crank up the showmanship to woo the crowds.
