The Fondation Louis Vuitton is marking the centennial of Alexander Calder’s arrival in France and the 50th anniversary of his death with a major retrospective. After studying at the Art Students League of New York, Calder moved to Paris in 1926 and became part of a thriving creative community in Montparnasse, then the hub of the international art scene. Retracing Calder’s evolution from the 1920s to the 1970s, the exhibition highlights the American sculptor’s lifelong fascination with movement, light, sound, and balance.
