EVOK Hotels Shows of its Most Daring Design Yet with Sinner Paris

After months of teasing on Instagram, EVOK Hotels has finally unveiled its most avant-garde design hotel yet with Sinner, a daring third addition to the hotel group’s burgeoning portfolio. [Read our articles about the other properties, Brach Paris and Nolinski.]

This time the group has handed keys over to designer Tristan Auer, who has drawn upon a curious combination of influences, from the Catholic history of Le Marais (the hotel is located on rue du Temple, named after the Knights Templar) to the frivolity of the 1970s. The result is a space which is luxurious but fun, and more than a touch provocative.

To enhance Auer’s décor, the hotel has created a complete guest experience, from being escorted to your room by lantern-carrying staff, kitted out in ecclesiastical uniforms, to the seductively low-lit rooms which welcome you on arrival. The Suite is undoubtedly the sexiest of all the guest rooms, with its ink-colored walls, leather clad furniture, and plush carpeted floors. The deep red tub faces your own private hammam, and the bed is an inviting circular cocoon of feathery bedding and fine linens.

To balance out this darker, more sensual side of Sinner, the remaining guest rooms are surprisingly bright and contemporary. White walls are a sharp contrast to the mysteriously dark corridors, and pops of color come in the form of pink rugs, clashing red lamps, and sofas striped with 70s shades of green and chartreuse. As Le Marais is a hub for art, design, and fashion, modern artwork and photography can be found throughout the hotel, and a collection of books and vinyl has been specially curated for each room.

Guests can explore other dark and hidden corners of the hotel in the form of the Crypt, Sinner’s aptly-named concept store, where engraved tomb-like drawers hide bottles of the hotel’s signature scent. Just opposite, draw back the curtain of the confessional to find a laptop for business use, perhaps the most tongue-in-cheek nod to the Church. The spa is also secreted away, this time behind an underground nail-studded door. Indulge with treatments courtesy of organic, vegan, and eco-friendly brand Orveda, which have been specially created for Sinner, or take a dip in the candle-lit pool inspired by Greek and Roman baths.

In the bar and restaurant, double-height ceilings avoid the cloistered feel of other spaces, and velvet armchairs in shades of red and pink nod to colorful stained glass. On the menu, Chef Adam Bentalha has taken inspiration from his Algerian heritage, combining North African influences with South American dishes for casual dining rather than formal French gastronomy.

The biblically named signature cocktails blend together spirits sourced from small distilleries with homemade infusions, and are of course an essential part of a clandestine evening lived out at Sinner.
