If you take the RER, it's about a 20 minute ride from the Etoile to Paris. The metro takes almost double the time.

Vincennes is a VERY residential area. Many people enjoy living there but it wouldn't be my first choice if I were touristing.

Do take a look at: www.ratp.fr That will give you a good overview. Please let us know what you decide!
I took a taxi to Vincennes to a French home for dinner and it was from the Marais, I think it took less than a half hour but it cost, as I remember $15 but keep in mind, the taxi meter runs as soon as they leave whereever they are and I had the hotel call the cab.
Vincennes is just on the edge of Paris. It is served by a number of metro lines, but aside from the Chateau and the park out there do not expect to walk to too many other Paris sights.
Hey All!

So, just how far is Vincennes from Paris? I may end up staying out in the Vincennes area in March 2007 in a timeshare and I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into before I commit. I like the convenience of being able to walk to places from my hotel, any time of the day or night (or take a taxi that won't bankrupt me). Any thoughts/tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Barbara

I've walked the Parc Vincennes and it's lovely. But I wouldn't consider walking to it from Paris...even with good walking shoes!
We've been to the chateau once, but took the metro, so its not clear how good the walk is, nor if you have to cross any life-threatening streets on the way. If you plan to walk the park, it might be better to take the metro, and save the walking when you're fresh. We've walked the Bois de Boulougne, but never the parc Vincennes.
thanks. St Germain. I'm going to someone's home for lunch. smile.gif

I'll be in Paris the first two weeks in Feb. The most I have been in Paris before was for three days, a stop before flying home so don't know my way arouind. I'm going to be a flaneur and I d like to know if it's possible to walk from the Marais to this area in an hour.' unsure.gif

It might just be feasible, if you have good shoes and walk at a good clip. The park out there is beautiful and very large. So, if you walk there (instead of taking Metro 1) you may end up being too tired to see the entire park and the Chateau.
