Bonjour! I can heartily recommend the Loire. We have visited several times, both with student groups (I'm a teacher) and on our own. We have particularly enjoyed the town of Amboise (Hotel Belle Vue is right beside the château--we could almost touch the château from our window!) where we have visited the château, the Clos Luce where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last 4 years, and the wonderful <son et lumière> (sound & light play) put on at the château (though I think that is only in July and August). Saumur is another wonderful little town with a great château in the horse region. Chenonceau is the arguably most beautiful of the châteaux--also near a lovely little town (Chenonceaux). Chenonceau's little cafeteria style cafe makes a great lunch stop--or for more fancy people there's a full service restaurant. The château of Cheverny is less crowded and really beautiful--it is the model for the château in the comic Tintin. It is still lived in by the family that owns it. Chinon has great medieval ruins of the château where Joan of Arc first met the Dauphin. Chambord is the largest château in the Loire (440 rooms, 365 fireplaces) and a horse show or two each day featuring breeds and costumes. Azay-le-Rideau has a light show at night and a wonderful village of the same name next door. For gardens, Villandry has terraced, organic gardens.
Ussé is the inspiration for the Herrault fairy tale Sleeping Beauty and is a turreted château with multiple architectural styles. And that's only a few! Hope you have a wonderful time picking a few and visiting. Bon voyage!

I am somewhat confused, sorry. What made you decide to visit the Loire Valley, when you don't know anything about it? Are you booked on a tour?

As suggested before, get a travel book about the area, do some search in the net.
You can always come back for specific questions, but so far, you are just too vague. sad.gif

Here's some reading about the famous Loire Castles:

Haven't you taken a look at what BPers have already offered.? Quite recently also. It's so much more informative if we get an idea of what interests you. Are you going by car or train or on a tour and what plans do you already have?
