Mimi - surf the Internet for a "multi-standard" DVD player. They're becoming more common .. ergo, prices are going down.

I have them in France!

I have bought several French format DVDs from Amazon.fr and instead of having them transferred to American format, I bought a DVD player capable of playing ALL formats...
They are fairly cheap and work great...

Their DVDs do not work on my player and it's expensive to have it converted.

St Germain -- I bet Virgin sells on-line. But, I generally use FNAC. When it comes to DVD's be sure you'll be able to play it in the US. Pal - Secaan and such.

Confusing and I've made some mistakes.
