Hotel Vernet

A century-old landmark just off the Avenue Champs-Elysées was given a new lease of life in June 2014 with a chic upgrade by celebrated interior designer François Champsaur. Now a member of Design Hotels, the five-star Hotel Vernet still boasts the marble lobby and gorgeous glass dome designed by Gustave Eiffel in the restaurant. But the hotel now channels a contemporary vibe- as evidenced by the colourful modern carpets, the bar fresco by contemporary artist Jean-Michel Alberola, the spa-like bathrooms, and the high-tech gadgetry in the guest rooms (like a SmartPhone charger right next to the bed, and a panel of international adapters built into the desk).

Rooms are decorated with oak floors, organic cotton curtains by Pierre Frey, and Carrara marble in the bathrooms. The Executive Suites are appreciated both by families and business travelers, as the small salon can easily host a business meeting, or doubles as a bedroom for the kids. As this is a five-star hotel, the service is top-notch, and the clés d’or concierge team can provide insider tips and access to hard-to-book restaurants and shows. Hotel Vernet is part of the family-owned Bessé Signature Group, also behind the Bel-Ami in the 6th arrondissement and the Hotel Edouard 7 in the 2nd.

25 Rue Vernet, 75008. Tel: +33 1 44 31 98 00. Rates vary depending on the season; from 224 euros. www.hotelvernet.com
