September 2010 Paris Events
The rentrée begins in early September when everyone returns home to Paris from their time away on holiday. September brings in warm days of an Indian summer, giving all a chance to sit on a terrace in the glorious sun for a final touch of summer before it passes us by. And with the rentrée comes a slew of new offerings to get back up to speed in the City of Light for great events and nightlife! Opera, Ballet and Theatre Performance Palais Garnier Roland Petit– Choreographer Roland Petit, opening September 22nd Three ballets highlighting the Tour de Force of French choreographer, Roland Petit. L’Italiana in Algeri – Conductor Maurizio Benini, opens September 11th The Italian Girl in Algiers, said to be written by Rossini at age 21, is considered a comedic and light opera. Opéra Bastille Der Fliegende Holländer, Conductor Peter Schneider, opens September 9th through October 9th The Flying Dutchman is Wagner’s first masterpiece based upon the folklore of a ghost ship doomed to sail the seas forever. An opera in three acts, Wagner was inspired to write this opera after a particularly stormy sea crossing. Eugene Onegin, Conductor Vasily Petrenko, opens September 17th through October 11th This opera is a well-known example of lyric opera, based on the novel in verse by Alexander Pushkin, with music by Tchaikovsky. This international event offers up everything from archaeology to modern painting and jewelry, as well as featuring 25 new international dealers. Festival Classique au Vert – Through September 26th this music festival concentrates on the greatest romantic composers.  Music in the Parc Floral de Paris every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
